The Amritsar Train misfortune of 2018 is being compared with the Jaliyanwala Bagh massacre of 1919. The Jaliyanwala Bagh massacre happened when people gathered to celebrate the harvest festival and along with it, also condemn the arrest of some national leaders. Little did they know what was in store for them; the British troops entered the area, blocked the only entrance and started firing bullets. Not knowing where to hide, many jumped into a well and died.
This time around too, people had gathered to celebrate Dussehra at the Dhobi Ghat. Fearing that they’d be burnt by the fireworks, the crowd moved to the railway tracks and were being run down by the speeding train.
The interesting point to note is the train misfortune has happened after a span of 99 years from the Jaliyanwala Bagh massacre. 9 is known to be the highest number in Numerology. We have 9 year cycles, which means, similar events repeat themselves in about 9 years, and this time, it’s 99 years exactly.
That time around, the massacre was followed by a major political movement known as the “Khilafat” movement, where politicians from the two major religions in India came together to raise awareness against the ruling government. The incident marked a turning point in Indian history. It will be interesting to see what will be in store for us this time.
The idea behind posting this, is just comparing the resemblance between the two events. There have also been other examples where we can see a similar pattern of history repeating itself. John F. Kennedy was born in 1917. Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809. There is a time span of about 108 years between their births; 1 + 0 + 8 = 9. The interesting points to note are; both of them were elected as Presidents in the year number 46 and were assassinated in similar ways.
This brings me to the conclusion that if we are able to learn our lessons from these events in the past, possibly we can avoid certain possibilities in the future. However, if we refuse to learn from the past, we are condemned to repeat it.
